My start in Illustrating

I had always created fun cards for friends’ birthdays, but I never seriously thought of illustrating as a career until after my son was born. I had worked at the Edmonton Public Library and had done some small spot drawings for library brochures, so I gathered those images and some of the other whimsical creatures I had painted and put together a portfolio to show to Tree Frog Press, an Edmonton children’s book publisher. They didn’t have any work for me at the time but they gave my name to an Educational Press - and I was off! I did some work for several different Educational Publishers and then Tree Frog called about illustrating an anthology of contemporary fairy tales. My favourite! In addition to educational publishing, I’ve worked for traditional publishers and have self published.
