Other Work
I enjoy working in all kinds of media, from watercolour to acrylic and crayon, from pencil to furniture to papier mâché. Included in this gallery are some of the projects past and present that I’ve created.
The images in this gallery are samples of my work and are not for sale.

Landscape
My husband, Peter, and I have gone on a number of road trips over the years. Everywhere we go I record the landscape either by sketching or photographing the parts that interest me.
Mostly, I just sketched or snapped photos and then forgot about them. Then, a couple of years ago I bought a stack of masonite boards, searched my notebooks and digital files, and started translating my sketches and photos into acrylic paintings. I had so much fun doing these landscapes! These paintings are much looser than my controlled watercolours. Also, the images I created from my sketches became more abstract than the ones I did using photos as resources.

Abstract
My abstract work is about an exploration of surface and mark making.
I’m attracted to surface texture and have taken many photos of sidewalks, streets and so on. Recently, I’ve combined mono printing, gradated spray painting, textiles and stitching to translate my photos into abstract textile or paper collages.
Using a needle and thread to form stitches creates a mark on fabric or paper, the same way a mark is created using a 6B pencil or a brush and watercolour.
It’s just a heck of a lot SLOWER.

Mural
In 2009 I created a mural for children at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital. Although no longer there, it was about 300 feet long and wound its way down a long hallway in the paediatric section of the hospital. The images are of a marching band of anthropomorphic animals. I had fun making an animal for every letter of the alphabet and had them playing instruments – also every letter of the alphabet!
Furniture
In 2002 I helped a friend by sharing an Edmonton Fringe craft tent with her. Once I agreed to do that I had to figure out something to sell — and that’s when I started painting wooden furniture, starting with trays and stools and adding chairs, benches, tables and other wooden things. Although I loved it at the time, I only occasionally paint furniture now, not very often.
